Flat Belly Diet

Flat Belly Diet

Feb. 22 2008 I'm Skeptical From Mahalo: "[The Flat Belly Diet] consists of an eating plan that incorporates Monounsaturated fat-rich foods (MUFAs) into every meal, based on research indicating that MUFA-rich diets help people lose small amounts of weight and body fat without changing their caloric intake." (emphasis mine)

I'd like to see the research.
(Here's some kind of overview that is hard to read: http://www.jacn.org/cgi/content/abstract/26/5/434)

It sounds like a healthy idea, but I'm skeptical of any diet saying you can lose weight without reducing caloric intake (or increasing exercise).

Anyone have any experience with this diet yet?

Feb. 19 2008 No Gimmicks This book gets to the heart of weight loss... giving scientific reasons for why our bodies act the way they do.

Great things I took from this book.

1. People can be overweight for different reasons, but the #1 reason is that your body doesn't stop you from overeating (by telling you you're "full").

2. Since your body won't do it for you, YOU need to tell yourself when to stop eating.

3. If you are hungry, it means you're losing weight. You have be hungry sometimes to lose weight.

4. When it comes to weight loss, forget exercise. It's easier for most people to pass on a snack than run on a tread mill for an hour.

A great read. Funny at times... especially for techies, hackers, and other computer nerds. But you don't have to be a programmer to learn something from this guy.

Feb. 14 2008 Incredible Book This is an incredible book. The subtitle is to be taken literally. In the book, Kurzweil and Grossman will bring you up to speed on modern technologies that are increasing human lifespans.

And we're not talking about being 80 years old forever. 40 is the new 30. Soon 50 will be the new 30, etc. Just like with computer chips, the rate of progress in health and medicine is blindingly quick... so that in the near future, we'll all be 30 years old forever.

And if you are over 30 already, you'll want to stick around for the 30-50 years it will take to get to the point we can reverse aging. So the authors will correct your thinking on what a healthy diet should be and share what you can do to ensure you live long enough to take part in the health and medicine revolution.

Kurzweil himself takes something like 250 pills a day. He doesn't suggest you go as extreme as him, but you can meet him half way, or 1% of the way, and still live a healthier life.

If you want to truly understand the human body and how aging and human health works - science - pick up this book.

Feb. 14 2008 Kurzweil is Genius Ray Kurzweil is probably the world's foremost authority on what the future will bring.

His other book, "Fantastic Voyage: How to Live Long Enough to Live Forever" is excellent, and I'm sure this book is a more "do this" kind of book that will help people who need a regiment. I would also checkout Fantastic Voyage, as it is more recent and is likely to be better informed.
